José Maria da Fonseca Vinhos

The José Maria da Fonseca winery from Azeitao on the Setúbal Peninsula, Portugal is internationally recognized as the traditional winery of Portugal. Founded in 1834, wines were exported all over the world as early as the mid-19th century.

The most famous wine of the region is the premium sweet Moscatel de Setúbal, a dessert wine that is also offered by José Maria da Fonseca in the highest quality.

Increasingly, dry wines are also being grown in the region.

The company processes its own grapes from a total of 650 hectares on four estates spread throughout Portugal. The portfolio includes more than 30 brands under which the wines of the winery are marketed. Among them, Periquita is the oldest wine brand in Portugal, which has been in existence for more than 150 years.

Today, Family Soares Franco in the seventh generation runs the company. The idea of sustainability plays a special role in the company, not only because of the long tradition of the winery, but also because of active efforts to preserve natural resources.
