"For us it is important that sustainability does not stop in the vineyard. In addition to environmental aspects, sustainability also includes good and fair contact with employees, customers and suppliers, resource-saving work processes, open and transparent production and many other points regarding ecological, social, economic and cultural responsibility."

Wine Estate Hubertus M. Apel

The Apel family has been living in Nittel on the Mosel for centuries and has been involved in viticulture for just as long. From the mid-30s, Heinrich Matthias Apel has completely committed himself to viticulture. In 1988, his sons Harald and Hubert Apel took over the management of the wine estate and since 2016, the brothers Philip, Johannes and Matthias Apel followed their father Harald Apel in the third generation of the family business.

The estate cultivates 34 hectares of vineyards with the grape Elbling, as well as Burgundy grape varieties.

The climate of the areas is characterized by the heat storage power of shell limestone and the Moselle reflecting the sun. By sowing various herbs and grasses, the vitality of the vineyards is increased. This strengthens the natural plant power of the vines, and crop protection can be reduced to a minimum.
